Stroll to Garitsa, down the coast off Corfu Town to visit the Archaeological Museum of Corfu. Inaugurated in 1967, the museum was originally founded to house the findings of the ancient temple of Artemis in Kanoni. The museum exhibits findings dating from the Prehistoric to the Hellenistic times, including bronze and marble statues, funeral offerings, ancient coins, clay pottery, golden jewellery, and parts of ancient temples. The impressive Gorgona-Medusa pediment from the temple of Artemis, dating from 585 BC, is the museum's main highlight. This pediment was excavated in 1911 and it is considered the oldest stone pediment of an ancient Greek temple. If you would rather stay in the Liston area with the kids, visit the Museum of Asian Arts just steps away, housed in the Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George. It is the only one of its kind in Greece, solely dedicated to the art and antiquities of the Far East and India. Mavroudis Museum Olive Mill is owned by the Mavroudis, a family of olive producers who live in Corfu Greece. The estate keeps over 2,000 olive trees in the southern area of Corfu. A large proportion of these groves are made up of the ”Lianolia Kerkyra“ olive tree, a variety native to Corfu, some of which are over 700 years old. Other varieties that belong to the family include the Koroneiki. These olive trees have been planted more recently and produce an olive oil with an intense green colour, fruity grassy flavour and distinctive aroma, rich in precious organoleptic substances, vitamins and low acidity. Your family will enjoy tasting their fresh award-winning olive oil with homemade bread and local delicacies, while kids will love participating in the process of olive oil pressing, learning about an essential cycle of nature and the healthy ingredient of olive oil. The Music Museum attempts to present in brief the history of the Philharmonic Society of Corfu through its almost two centuries of uninterrupted activity (a period marked by the some of the most dramatic moments in modern history) through the items on display therein. The Museum also honors with its name the leading Corfiot composer Nikolaos Halikiopoulos Mantzaros (1795–1872), its first artistic director (1841–1872), composer - among others - of the Greek national anthem, brass composer and inspirer of a whole generation of composers who shaped the music of the Ionian Islands.
