A UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam, Ha Long Bay features thousands of limestone karsts and islets that have risen from the sea and undergone millions of years of formation under different geological conditions. The name comes from a legend that long ago when the country was newly formed, the Vietnamese forefathers had to fight against fierce invaders from the North by sea. The gods sent the Mother Dragon and her children to help the ancient Vietnamese people defend their country. It is now inhabited by 571 benthic species, 419 plankton species, 181 species of coral, 156 species of fish, 139 species of seaweed, and 19 mangrove plant species endemic to the surroundings. 


Ha Long Bay

Ba Mun island is located in Bai Tu Long Bay and is the biggest wildlife conservation site in Vietnam's northeastern region. There are over 2,000 species of flora and fauna sheltering in the island's primeval forest. Ba Mun island measures 1,800 hectares and is just 0.28 nautical miles (0.5km) away from Quan Lan by Doi Strait or 45 minutes by speedboat from Ao Tien port.

Home to Angsana Quan Lan, the island of Quan Lan is located in Bai Tu Long Bay, northeast of Ha Long Bay. Quan Lan offers natural, unspoilt scenery and a charming village vibe with its pristine beaches, primeval forests, jagged cliffs, and abundance of seafood. The island was formerly named Canh Cuoc and is dotted with pagodas, shrines and temples paying respect to gods, ancestors, kings and heroes of past. It is recommended to visit Quan Lan temple complex which consists of a temple, pagoda and communal house.

Also known as Cape Got after the Dau Got islet, Cape Sa Vi is in the northeasternmost point of Vietnam in Mong Cai city, 350 kilometres from Hanoi. "Sa" means "sand" and "Vi" means "tail", named such because during low tide, the receding water leaves a wide strip of sand in the shape of a dragon’s tail. The beach stretches for 17 kilometres and is shaped like a giant sickle. Adventure seekers can also explore Mong Cai city attractions such as Xa Tac temple, Tra Co coastal village, Hai Son-Bac Son mural painting village and the fishing village on Vinh Thuc island. 


Cape Sa Vi


Nature lovers will enjoy unearthing the remote mountainous district of Binh Lieu. Located 108 kilometres from Ha Long City and bordering Guangxi in China, Binh Lieu is also known as Quang Ninh's "Small Sapa" with its wild landscape and rolling mountains with peaks that look like dinosaur spines. The area is beautiful year-round, with various wildflowers blooming in the spring and stalks of reed shooting up in autumn, lending an air of romance.

Noi Bai International Airport is Vietnam's second largest airport after Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh and serves over 70 passenger and cargo flights across local and international destinations. From the airport, it takes 107 kilometres or 3 hours drive by car to Ha Long Bay or 1 hour by seaplane.

The first private airport in Vietnam, Van Don Airport welcomes regional and international flights and is projected to reach 5 million passengers by 2030 after expansion. It is 53 kilometres or merely an hour's drive to Ha Long City for a scenic route. The fastest way to arrive at Quan Lan island is to take a private car from Van Don Airport to Ao Tien Port, which takes only 12 kilometres or approximately 15 minutes.


Van Don International Airport (VDO)


Located in the industrial city of Hai Phong, Cat Bi International Airport serves Ha Long and Hai Phong. Airlines fly domestic routes across Vietnam, as well as international flights connecting South Korea.

Open in 2023, Ao Tien Port spans 30 hectares with 5 wharves and a capacity to hold up to 3 million passengers at a time. The international port is situated in Van Don district, a 3 hour ride by private car from Hanoi. Angsana Quan Lan operates its own private speedboat transfers from Ao Tien to Quan Lan with a travel duration of 45 minutes.

Located in the Ha Long Bay area, Tuan Chau Harbour is a mixed-use residential and commercial complex where cruise boats ferrying guests to Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay are parked. A number of tourist services are provided in this marina, including Hai Au Aviation office to take seaplane trips to Quan Lan and nearby islands.
