Sustainability is at the core of Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts. We believe in sustainable development, and our ethos “Embracing the Environment, Empowering People” commits to caring about our associates and protecting the environment and communities around us. We actively work to raise awareness and drive responsible travel and tourism, following our three core pillars of sustainability: Our Environment, Our Community, Our Responsibility.
At Angsana Velavaru, we take our responsibility to our environment seriously. Our programmes and initiatives help reduce our ecological footprint and create impactful experiences for guests, associates, and surrounding local communities. We operate as a business for good, and actively protect the biodiversity that surrounds our resort. Our in-house Marine Lab team conducts ongoing conservation efforts, including reef cleaning and coral planting. There are two coral rope nurseries and one coral garden on the lagoon, and these help to restore our reefs. We also raise awareness about the fragility of the Maldives ecosystem by engaging guests and associates in our marine conservation activities.
At Angsana Velavaru, we are dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of our surroundings through sustainable resource management. Each year, we introduce a new initiative focused on the core principles of reducing, refusing, recycling, reusing, and removing. Our commitment to resource conservation not only supports global climate action but also ensures we continue to offer a harmonious, eco-conscious experience for all who visit.
Angsana Velavaru promotes local cultural awareness among guests by seamlessly weaving Maldivian culture into the guest experiences such as regular Bodu Beru performances and local culture talks. In addition, we regularly form partnerships with local artisans and performers to showcase their culture and arts at the resort.
By organising regular clean-ups events, we aim to remediate and cleanse our natural environments and communities, to keep them in pristine condition. These clean-up events are one of the main activities we organise in partnership with local communities to help us support and engage with locals.
