Songkran Festival

Angsana Laguna Phuket

Songkran offer at Angsana Spa

There is a moment each April when all of Thailand pauses, exhales and begins again — washed clean by water, warmed by blessings and lifted by laughter. Songkran, Thai New Year festival is that moment.

And this year, Angsana Laguna Phuket invites you to celebrate Songkran in Phuket like never before.

What Is Songkran Festival and Why Celebrate in Thailand?

Songkran is Thailand's most beloved festival, celebrated annually from 13 to 15 April (or even before) to mark the Thai New Year. Rooted in Buddhist tradition, Songkran is a time of spiritual renewal, family togetherness and reverence for elders. The gentle pouring of scented water over Buddha images and the hands of loved ones symbolises purification, gratitude and fresh beginnings.

Over the centuries, these sacred rituals have blossomed into the world-famous Songkran water festival that draws millions of travellers to Thailand each year. In 2025, UNESCO recognised Songkran as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, further elevating the festival's global significance.

Songkran Festival in Phuket

Phuket is one of Thailand's most vibrant Songkran destinations

offering something that few other areas can match during Songkran — the combination of traditional cultural celebrations, beach-party energy and resort-based festivities all on one island.

In Bangkok, Songkran is an urban street festival. In Chiang Mai, it centres around the old city moat. In Phuket, the island's geography creates distinct celebration zones, each with its own character, spread across beaches, old towns, and resort areas. This means you can experience multiple styles of Songkran in a single trip.

While Patong Beach and Bangla Road are known for high-energy water fights, Bang Tao and Laguna Phuket offer a more relaxed, family-friendly Songkran atmosphere — all the festive joy without the crowds.

April is also Phuket's hottest month, with daytime temperatures consistently reaching 33–34°C. The endless splashing of cool water feels less like a tradition and more like a necessity — which is part of what makes celebrating Songkran on a tropical island so irresistible.
