Banyan Tree was founded with the core value of driving sustainable development. We employ an integrated and participatory approach, to minimise our impact while safeguarding and enhancing the human and physical environment for present and future generations. As stewards of responsible tourism, we have conceptualised our values in our “Brand for Good” framework to go beyond the precautionary approach and inspire exceptional experiences among our guests to “embrace the environment and empower people” at each of our locations.

Plastic-Free Banyan Tree


Our resort is committed to our brand-wide pledge to reduce and ultimately eliminate single-use plastics from our operations, as part of our continued effort to directly address the detrimental effect that plastic is having on the environment and marine life. In our first year, we as a Group managed to eliminate over 25% of targeted single-use plastic, meaning 1 in 4 of these items used will no longer be sent to landfill or end up polluting our environment.Angsana Xi'an Lintong has eliminated 100% of single-use plastic takeaway tableware and reduced 21% of other single-use plastics items.

Resource Conservation


Banyan Tree’s efforts connect with the issue of global climate action by conserving resources through efficient operations, with external assurance by EarthCheck, the leading benchmarking certification within the travel and tourism industry. Angsana Xi’an Lintong keeps looking for more methods to minimize our plastic consumption and reduce our impact on the local environment. Recycled hot spring water is also used to water the gardens.

Greening Communities Together


Our aim is to restore the natural environment, whilst raising awareness of climate change through tree-planting events, around the area in which we operate, with a current target of 2,000 trees per year. In the first ten years we planted almost half a million trees, and we aim to plant 25,000 during our 25th anniversary year.

Sustainability Achievements


Angsana Xi'an Lintong has been the recipient of various industry-recognized awards for our compliance to the most stringent environmental practices and commitment to corporate social responsibility. EarthCheck, the world's leading scientific benchmarking and certification group for sustainable tourism, awarded our resort Bronze Certification in 2017. For helping to build their libraries, the hotel was also honoured with a “Benevolent Company” award by two local schools.

Libraries in the Mountains


Children are the future of society. However, many children residing in the mountainous areas have limited access to educational resources. Associates from Angsana Xi’an Lintong visited two schools in the vicinity and through interactions with the students and teachers, recognised that extracurricular reading plays an important role in providing a cohesive education. Unfortunately, both schools did not have sufficient budget to upkeep a library for the students’ learning. In order to provide the children with an opportunity to develop their passion for reading, associates from Angsana Xi’an Lintong worked tirelessly with various social welfare organizations and philanthropists. After 60 days of hard work, two bright and spacious libraries were built and the children has since benefited greatly from this new resource in the school.

Supporting Local Communities


Supporting long-term societal prosperity is central to Banyan Tree’s ability to create value for local communities and this is achieved by empowering them through job creation, education, supporting artisanal cooperatives, community impact initiatives, humanitarian relief and connecting travelers to local culture and heritage.

Community Cleaning


We aim to organise a minimum of four cleaning activities each year, to engage members of the local community, our guests and our associates with the need for effective waste management and to promote responsible consumption of resources and maintaining a healthy environment.

Guest Engagement Initiative Earth Hour


Angsana Xi’an Lintong held a fun bazaar for Earth Hour! Guests drove to the property with decorated cars and sold second-hand goods directly from their car boot. In the evening, all the lights went out for an hour while candles and unplugged live music filled the place with a warm and cozy atmosphere. To increase environmental awareness, guests participated in a special “Light of Hope” ceremony, passing a lit candle from individual to individual and acknowledging the preciousness of the flame.

Guest Engagement Initiative Earth Day Games


Together with five voluntary college students, Angsana Xi’an Lintong invited guests to participate in “Earth Day Games”! Conveniently held at the hotel lobby, the goal was to raise awareness on environmental protection through several rounds of Q&A. The addition of a competitive element to the game helped motivate contestants and the winner walked away with a special prize. To conclude the event, all guests were invited to sign their names on the Earth Day billboard, symbolising their commitment to better the world.
