Banyan Tree was founded with the core value of driving sustainable development. We employ an integrated and participatory approach, to minimise our impact while safeguarding and enhancing the human and physical environment for present and future generations.

As stewards of responsible tourism, we have conceptualised our values in our “Brand for Good” framework to go beyond the precautionary approach and inspire exceptional experiences among our guests to “embrace the environment and empower people” at each of our locations.

Sustainability Achievement

Angsana Lăng Cô, part of Laguna Lăng Cô, has been the recipient of various industry-recognised awards for our compliance to the most stringent environmental practices and commitment to corporate social responsibility.

EarthCheck, the world's leading scientific benchmarking and certification group for sustainable tourism, has awarded Laguna Lăng Cô with Silver Certification for three consecutive years and the property is on track for a consecutive fourth. The prestigious awards demonstrate the property’s strong commitment towards being a sustainable tourism operator and is a testimony of its leading role in the hospitality industry.

Award for Corporate Social Responsibility
Angsana Lăng Cô’s effort in contributing to and giving back to the community in Vietnam has been recognised by the Australian Chamber of Commerce. This award highlights the initiatives and commitment of the hotel and its positive impact on surrounding communities.

Plastic-Free Banyan

Our resort is committed to our brand-wide pledge to reduce and ultimately eliminate single-use plastics from our operations, as part of our continued efforts to directly address the detrimental effect that plastic is having on the environment and marine life. In our first year, we as a Group managed to eliminate over 25% of targeted single-use plastics, meaning one in four of these items used will no longer be sent to landfills or end up polluting our environment. In a similar spirit to keep Lang Co plastic- free, we have hosted five cleaning events with 341 participants, and we were able to collect 659 kg of rubbish.

Resource Conservation

Banyan Tree’s efforts connect with the issue of global climate action by conserving resources through efficient operations, with external assurance by EarthCheck, the leading benchmarking certification within the travel and tourism industry.

At Angsana Lăng Cô, no exception is made when it comes to protecting the environment. Each year, the property organise a special Earth Hour event for guests and associates to raise awareness about resource conservation and climate change. In addition, the property established an Energy Saving Committee to ensure effective implementation of energy-saving measures.

Greening Communities Together

Our aim is to restore the natural environment whilst raising awareness on climate change through tree-planting events around the area in which we operate, with a current target of 2,000 trees per year. In the first 10 years, we planted almost half a million trees, and we aim to plant 25,000 during our 25th anniversary year.

The Seedlings programme was created to nurture young people at risk of societal exclusion, providing vocational and life skills and education, and preparing them for life and work. After graduation, all trainees have found jobs and some are recruited to work at various departments within the Banyan Tree family. In addition to vocational training, a range of life skills such as compassion, teamwork, presentation skills and various social issues like protection against child abuse are also introduced monthly to Seedlings trainees. In the future, Seedlings trainees will be well-equipped with knowledge and skills to become successful global citizens.

Supporting Local Communities

Supporting long-term societal prosperity is central to Banyan Tree’s ability to create value for local communities, and this is achieved by empowering them through job creation, education, supporting artisanal cooperatives, community impact initiatives, humanitarian relief and connecting travellers to local culture and heritage.

Winter is often the season when care is needed the most and every year, Angsana Lăng Cô keeps its tradition of giving back to the community. Further supported by funds raised from Laguna Lăng Cô’s Golfers, the property installed hot water systems for both Chan May hospital and Nuoc Ngot Social Protection Centre. With monthly visits and fund-raising from associates and guests, the property will continue its effort to support underprivileged groups.

Community Cleaning

We aim to organise a minimum of four cleaning activities each year, to engage members of the local community, our guests and our associates with the need for effective waste management and to promote responsible consumption of resources and maintain a healthy environment.

Guest Engagement Activities - English is Fun

All English-speaking guests are invited to join Angsana Lăng Cô’s  fun-filled 1.5-hour English lessons three times a week held every three months at local secondary schools. With the involvement of foreign guests and volunteers, such lessons provide an interactive educational environment for young students and inspire them to study English harder in order to be able to explore the world.

Guest Engagement Activities - An Edible Golf Course

Angsana connects guests’ kindness with underprivileged children, elderly orphans and poor families in  nearby communities. Monthly visits and donation events with staff and guests’ participation are organised regularly to provide basic amenities, home care, as well as foster story-telling. In the spectacular Nick Faldo-designed golf course, nearly 40 tons of rice are harvested per year. To date, harvested rice from the course have been donated to more than 300 local people, giving it the nickname - “Edible Golf Course”.

Guest Engagement Activities - Building a Better Tomorrow

Angsana Lăng Cô is working towards the completion of two new extra training rooms and a library for Binh An Primary School. With support from Banyan Tree Global Foundation, the property will be able to provide much-needed space and create a comfortable learning environment for 500 students from villages in the nearby communities. The school will be finished in mid-August and in time for the opening of a new school year.
