Angsana was founded with the core value of driving sustainable development. We employ an integrated and participatory approach, to minimise our impact while safeguarding and enhancing the human and physical environment for present and future generations. As stewards of responsible tourism, we have conceptualised our values in our “Brand for Good” framework to go beyond the precautionary approach and inspire exceptional experiences among our guests to “embrace the environment and empower people” at each of our locations.

Sustainability Achievements


Angsana Villas Resort Phuket has been the recipient of various industry-recognized awards for our compliance to the most stringent environmental practices and commitment to corporate social responsibility.
EarthCheck Silver Certification Status
EarthCheck, the world's leading scientific benchmarking and certification group for sustainable tourism, awarded our resort Silver Certification as recognition for continuous certification since 2018 which incorporates annual measurement of operational indicators such as energy; emissions; water, waste and paper use; chemical and pesticide use; and community involvement.

Plastic-Free Angsana


Our resort is committed to our brand-wide pledge to reduce and ultimately eliminate single-use plastics from our operations, as part of our continued effort to directly address the detrimental effect that plastic is having on the environment and marine life. In our first year, we as a Group managed to eliminate over 25% of targeted single-use plastic, meaning 1 in 4 of these items used will no longer be sent to landfill or end up polluting our environment.

Resource Conservation


Banyan Tree’s efforts connect with the issue of global climate action by conserving resources through efficient operations, with external assurance by EarthCheck, the leading benchmarking certification within the travel and tourism industry.

Greening Communities Together


Our aim is to restore the natural environment, whilst raising awareness of climate change through tree-planting events, around the area in which we operate, with a current target of 2,000 trees per year.

SEEDLINGS


Our Seedlings programme was created to nurture young people at risk of societal exclusion, providing vocational and life skills and education, and preparing them for life and work.

Mentorship: Young people between the age of 12 and 18 are mentored by volunteering associates who’ve undergone mentor training.

Scholarships: Angsana provides financial support for young people who face challenges in affording to continue their education.

Seedlings Café was established as a social enterprise concept to empower marginalised local young adults through vocational training and job opportunities and to equip them with the life skills required to forge successful careers in the hospitality industry. The restaurant is one of Laguna Phuket’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and has been supported by the Banyan Tree Global Foundation since its inception.

The programme is one year long and provides students with F&B training at properties under the Banyan Tree Group as well as English language and computer classes. In partnership with Prince of Songkla University, Phuket and Ministry of Social Development and Human Welfare, Phuket, more than half of the graudates have worked at Seedlings Café. Out of those graduates, eight of them are still working at the restaurant today.

Supporting Local Communities


Supporting long-term societal prosperity is central to Angsana’s ability to create value for local communities and this is achieved by empowering them through job creation, education, supporting artisanal cooperatives, community impact initiatives, humanitarian relief and connecting travelers to local culture and heritage.

Angsana Villas Resort Phuket is a member of Laguna Phuket Associate Saving Cooperative, also known as “Coop”. Established in 2010, Coop is an initiative created by associates with the key objective of providing secure, reliable, profitable, and fair financial services to members. As “shareholders,” members are entitled to such benefits as annual dividends, low interest loans, and high interest saving schemes.

As of late 2018, Coop has given loans to 643 members totaling to 52 million Baht.

Community Cleaning


We aim to organise a minimum of four cleaning activities each year, to engage members of the local community, our guests and our associates with the need for effective waste management and to promote responsible consumption of resources and maintaining a healthy environment.

Monthly Alms Giving


Experience a meaningful ritual through our monthly alms-giving ceremony, also known as “Tak Bard”. During the ceremony, devotees give alms to the monks and in return receive blessings.

Happy Friday Stay for Good


Make Laguna Phuket Your Home by taking part in one of our CSR initiatives during your stay. “Happy Friday - Stay for Good” is our weekly activity that promotes good citizenship and volunteerism among our guests and associates. A variety of do-good and feel-good activities are available at our Mobile Learning Centre (MLC) or Laguna Phuket Kindergarten.

Cooking Class with Seedlings


Be a part of our commitment to empowering youths through the Seedlings programme. With a dedicated young chef, learn about local spices and make your own “Yam Pak Kood” (spicy vegetable salad with shrimp), an authentic dish from Phuket. *Seedlings is a social enterprise eatery concept aiming to empower young adults via vocational training, Seedlings Cafe leverages Angsana and Banyan Tree Food and Beverage expertise to create a lasting positive impact upon host communities.
