A beautiful Baci ceremony at Maison Souvannaphoum is the perfect way to mark the end of your journey in Luang Prabang. The Baci ceremony or su kwan is one of the most important traditions in Laos. It is used to celebrate any event, be it a birth, marriage, departure or return. It is an ancient belief that humans have kwan or spirits – parts of the soul or vital forces that protect you but that also roam away. The Baci ceremony calls the kwan back and rebonds them to you.
In front of a tray of symbolic flowers and foods, village elders will tie white cotton threads on the wrist chanting blessings for peace, good health and safe journey.
