Pak Ou Cave Tour by Slow Boat
Journey 25 km up the Mekong River to explore mysterious Pak Ou Cave, a site full of ancient Buddha statues.
The group of caves, about two hours upstream from town, is of great significance to the Lao people. Buddhas are laid out on walls in important poses, including meditative, teaching, peace, and reclining (nirvana). Explore the caves, cruise on the Mekong and witness life on the river, stopping at villages along the way.
9:00am – Transfer from hotel by van to the boat pier. Take a boat trip on the Mekong River to Pak Ou caves. Watch the traditional way of life, including fishing, small villages, sandbar BBQs and kids splashing in the water.
12:00pm – Picnic lunch
1:00pm – Return to Luang Prabang with stops at Ban Sang Hai to learn about and sample lao-lao, Lao rice whisky, and Ban Jarn, the pottery village.
4:00pm – Transfer from boat pier back to hotel
